THERE’S STILL TIME TO SHOW YOUR SUPPORT!
For many, playing just one 18-hole round of golf can be enough to get the heart rate going. But, for four keen golfers looking to raise funds for cancer charity, Macmillan, it was only the beginning.
Friends David Fell, Darren Fell, Andy Prager and Jeremy Keran took part in the Longest Golf Day Challenge on June 14th in support of all people affected by cancer.
The challenge was to play four rounds of golf in one day, which meant a walk of around 20 miles and the need to stay the course from sunrise to sundown.
Andy Prager, who is the Electrical Services Director at Paine Manwaring, said: “We are a bunch of men in various states of middle age, who enjoy our golf, even if we don’t play as often or as well as we would like!
“Maybe it’s because we are trying to stave off a crisis, or maybe we just like a challenge, either way we decided to team up and take part in the Longest Day Golf Challenge in support of Macmillan Cancer Support”.
The event took place at the fantastic Goodwood Park Course and was backed by Golf @ Goodwood, Southern Fire Alarms, Paine Manwaring, GBE Converge and JK System Solutions.
The team teed off at 5.30am and finished at 8.50pm – an incredible 15 hours of hard graft! At the end of the long day, all those involved came off the course ready to drop, but incredibly pleased to have completed their challenge in support of such a worthwhile cause.
Macmillan is a charity which provides valuable support to people affected by cancer. The funds raised from events such as this enable the charity to give people practical, emotional and personal support through cancer, from help with money worries to being there when someone needs to talk.
Andy added: “It really was a long day and we certainly slept well that night! All in all the event at Goodwood raised over £13,000 for Macmillan and our team were the second biggest fundraisers.
“Pretty much everyone knows someone who has been affected by cancer in some way, so it was great to be able to raise money for such a worthwhile cause.”
Following a successful challenge, the intrepid four are still looking to not only meet, but exceed their fundraising target of £1,500.
And it’s still not too late to help them reach their goal, which is well within sight.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity. So it’s the most efficient way to donate – saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
