Leisure Facilities Case Study – Windlesham House

Windlesham House School is one of the country’s leading co-educational preparatory schools, offering world-class day and boarding for school children aged from 4 to 13 years.

Their current swimming pool was built over 60 years ago and desperately needed to be updated in order to keep up with technology and modern pool design.

The school appointed Kier Southern, a leading construction group, to deliver the new facility and Kier chose Paine Manwaring to provide a full mechanical and electrical package for phase two of the work.

The new 25 metre 6 lane indoor pool had to be large enough for inter-house galas and competitions. Features included the following:

  • Depth of 90 cm shallow end to 1.8 metre depth in deep end
  • Latest technology for water filtration and ventilation
  • Viewing area for spectators

The team at Paine Manwaring were engaged for a full design and build contract to BIM Level 1.

Work then undertaken included all mechanical and electrical aspects including biomass boiler installation, heating system, laundry ventilation, underfloor heating, radiant panels, ventilation, sanitary ware, emergency lighting, fire alarm system, lighting protection, CCTV and all associated controls.

After the work was completed in January 2018, Martin Perry, Operations Manager at Kier Construction gave huge thanks to the team for their hard work and assistance throughout the construction of the new sports centre.
